On 22 April 2025, Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Thailand’s ASEAN Senior Official, led the Thai delegation to the 37th ASEAN-United States Dialogue in Siem Reap, Cambodia, co-chaired by Cambodia, as the Country Coordinator for ASEAN-U.S. Dialogue Relations, and the U.S.
The meeting reviewed and discussed ways to strengthen the ASEAN-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, such as the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, Artificial Intelligence, and Energy, and exchanged views on key regional and international issues of common interest.
At the meeting, Thailand (1) proposed that ASEAN and the U.S. further strengthen digital economic cooperation, including through the development of the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) and joint efforts to combat online scams; (2) reaffirmed Thailand and ASEAN’s commitment to working constructively with the U.S. to promote fair and sustainable trade and investment; (3) expressed readiness to continue working with the U.S. to advance the ASEAN-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, particularly in the areas of maritime security, energy, public health, and youth exchange.
In addition, on the sidelines of the meeting, the Permanent Secretary had a bilateral discussion with Mr. Sean O'Neill, U.S. Senior Bureau Official for East Asian and Pacific Affairs and Acting U.S. Senior Official for ASEAN. The Permanent Secretary reaffirmed Thailand’s readiness to address trade imbalance concerns together with the US ahead of planned talks between Thai and US representatives in Washington DC.
