Mrs. Nongnuth Petcharatana, Thailand’s representative to ASEAN Women for Peace Registry (AWPR) and Ms. Usana Berananda, Director General of the Department of ASEAN Affairs, met with Thailand’s senators namely, Mrs. Pikulkaew Krairiksh, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Mr. Virasakdi Futrakul, Professor Kanchanaratt Leevirojana, and Mrs. Panit Nitithanprapas to discuss ways and means to promote role and responsibility of the AWPR.

The senators expressed support to the mandate and the work of the AWPR. They recommended that women can take a leading role in poverty elimination and access to proper education, particularly vocational education, as this will open doors for jobs which generate basic income for them. Once women – half of the world population – are self-sustained, their families then have strong foundation that could prevent their children from involving in possible armed conflict.
