On 8 August 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, presided over the opening ceremony of the ASEAN Day 2025 celebration held at Lumpini Park, Bangkok. The event was organized by the Department of ASEAN Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, to commemorate the 58th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN.

The celebration comprised of two main activities: (1) the “ASEAN Flag Hoisting Ceremony” - a symbolic annual tradition that reflects the unity, solidarity, and robust cooperation among ASEAN Member States and ASEAN’s external partners, and (2) the inaugural “ASEAN Family Run”, a 2.5-kilometre walk-run held in a friendly and engaging atmosphere. The ASEAN Family Run aimed at encouraging healthy and balanced lifestyles, in line with ASEAN’s vision of building a resilient, inclusive, and people-centred Community.

As Thailand’s national ASEAN Secretariat, the Department of ASEAN Affairs has organized ASEAN Day celebrations annually to raise awareness of the importance of ASEAN and to reaffirm Thailand’s commitment—as a founding member of ASEAN—to strengthening regional cooperation. The event also serves as a platform for all sectors of society to participate and engage with the ASEAN Community. This year’s event was attended by approximately 350 participants from various sectors, including members of the diplomatic corps from ASEAN Member States, Timor-Leste, Dialogue Partners and Sectoral Dialogue Partners, representatives from government agencies, private sector, academia, international organisations, and the member of the public.

The occasion was also graced by Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, who participated in the ASEAN Flag Hoisting Ceremony and joined the ASEAN Family Run. The event also received valuable support from the ASEAN-Thailand Association, C asean, Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF), Thai Beverage Public Company Limited (ThaiBev), and the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD).
