On 29 October 2026, Mrs. Chatvadee Chindawongse, Director-General of the Department of ASEAN Affairs, met with Mr. Pablo Kang, Australian Ambassador to Thailand, on the occasion of his assumption of duty in July 2026.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the ASEAN-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), which will mark its 5^th anniversary at the 6^th ASEAN-Australia Summit during the 49^th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Manila. They also discussed Thailand’s priorities for the 49^th ASEAN Summit, Thailand’s preparations and priorities for its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2028, subregional cooperation, and exchanged views on regional and international developments, as well as the commemoration of the 75^th anniversary of Thai-Australian Diplomatic Relations in 2027.

Australia is ASEAN’s first Dialogue Partner, having established dialogue relations in 1974 and elevated the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2021, making it ASEAN’s first CSP partner. In 2024, the two sides celebrated the 50^th anniversary of their Dialogue Relations.
