On 4 September 2025, Mr. Bolbongse Vangphaen, Director-General of the Department of ASEAN Affairs, welcomed Ms. Delphine Schantz, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Representative for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, who assumed her post in Bangkok in August 2025.
The Director-General expressed appreciation for the longstanding cooperation between the Department and UNODC. Both sides exchanged views on the drafting of the ASEAN Border Management Cooperation Roadmap, a Thai initiative aimed at enhancing regional security in a comprehensive manner through effective border management, while also promoting economic and social connectivity among ASEAN Member States. The Roadmap is expected to be adopted at the 19th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) to be held on 10–11 September 2025 in Melaka, Malaysia.
In addition, both sides discussed preparations for the 2nd Border Management Cooperation Dialogue for the ASEAN Region, to be co-hosted by the Department of ASEAN Affairs and UNODC on 16–17 October 2025 in Bangkok, with participation from ASEAN Member States, Timor-Leste, and the ASEAN Secretariat. The Dialogue will serve to advance regional cooperation on border management, which is vital for strengthening security and combating transnational crime.
