Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs attends ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting and Related Meetings

On 8 June 2026, Mr. Chettaphan Maksamphan, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, represented the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs at the ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting (ASEAN SOM) at the Philippine International Convention Center in Manila, the Republic of the Philippines. The Meeting followed up key issues from the 48th ASEAN Summit in May 2026 and prepared for the upcoming 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and Related Meetings (AMM/PMC) in July this year, in particular the commemorative activity of the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) on 24 July 2026 and relations between ASEAN and external partners.
Later on 9 June 2026, the Deputy Permanent Secretary also attended (1) the ASEAN Plus Three Senior Officials’ Meeting (APT SOM), at which Thailand underscored the importance of enhancing the effectiveness of mechanisms in the areas of food and financial security under the ASEAN Plus Three framework and the promotion of economic integration and the acceleration of digital transformation to strengthen regional resilience and support sustainable economic growth,
(2) the ASEAN Regional Forum Senior Officials’ Meeting (ARF SOM), which discussed the future of the ARF as the region’s leading forum for political and security dialogue, endorsed the draft Manila Plan of Action 2026-2036, and exchanged views on emerging security challenges, particularly online scams and cyber threats, and major geopolitical developments, including the situations in the Middle East, South China Sea, Korean Peninsula, Ukraine, and Myanmar, and (3) the East Asia Summit Senior Officials’ Meeting (EAS SOM), which discussed how to strengthen the EAS amid an increasingly volatile international environment and the effective implementation of the EAS Plan of Action (2024-2028) and also exchanged views on key regional and international issues.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary also held bilateral meetings with (1) Mr. Grahame Morton, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand, and (2) Ms. Michelle Chan, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia, where both sides discussed how to advance cooperation within the ASEAN framework and followed up on bilateral issues of mutual interest.
