On 15 May 2026, H.E. Mr. Chettaphan Maksamphan, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, attended the 33rd ASEAN-New Zealand Dialogue in Christchurch, New Zealand.
The Meeting discussed how to advance ASEAN-New Zealand Dialogue Relations following the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) between ASEAN and New Zealand and welcomed the establishment of the ASEAN-New Zealand Vision Fund, which New Zealand announced at the 50th Anniversary of the Dialogue Relations in October 2025. The meeting also deliberated on preparation for the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting Post Ministerial Conference with New Zealand, to be held in July 2026.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary led a discussion on the Planet Pillar of the ASEAN-New Zealand’s cooperation framework, with focus on driving the green agenda, particularly cooperation on smart agriculture, clean energy, carbon credits market and biodiversity. He encouraged strengthening regional green mechanisms and scaling up regional climate action. Furthermore, the Deputy Permanent Secretary proposed ways forward to advance ASEAN-New Zealand cooperation in all 4 priority areas, namely Peace, Prosperity, People, and Planet. He also emphasised Thailand’s relentless support for multilateralism,
a rules-based international order, and maritime security. As Thailand is assuming ASEAN Chairship in 2028, he reaffirmed Thailand’s readiness to work closely with Singapore and Dialogue Partners, including New Zealand, to promote tangible cooperation in the region.
