WE, the Member States of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (hereinafter referred to as “ASEAN”), namely: Brunei Darussalam, the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Republic of Indonesia, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the Republic of the Philippines, the Republic of Singapore, the Kingdom of Thailand, and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, on the occasion of the 43rd ASEAN Summit held on 5 September 2023:

RECALLING the principles of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights that recognises the family as the natural and fundamental unit of society and entitled to protection by society and the State, as well as the commitments of all ASEAN Member States to the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) including the full development and advancement of women and men, and girls and boys, and the commitment to achieving SDG 5;
