The Department of ASEAN Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, the ASEAN BCG Network and the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue, organised the webinar entitled ASEAN Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Knowledge Sharing Series: Accelerating Clean Energy Transition for a Greener ASEAN on 16 September 2022. Over 150 participants from public sector, private companies, university network and civil societies across ASEAN attended the webinar.

On this occasion, participants learned from Mr. Beni Suryadi, Manager of Power, Fossil Fuel, Alternative Energy and Storage Department of the ASEAN Center for Energy, on the overall energy landscape in ASEAN as well as opportunities and challenges in renewable energy development in the region. Participants also had an opportunity to learn best practices from experts from the European Union (Mr. Matthieu Ballu, Policy Officer, Renewables and Energy System Integration Policy Unit of the European Union) and Norway (Mr. Jon Ulrik Haaheim, Senior Vice President, Statkraft AS) on effective policy formulation at both regional and national level, and gained insights into practical approaches to stimulate development of renewable energy industry through public-private partnerships and community engagements. They also exchanged views on ways to enhance cooperation to promote the transition to renewable energy in ASEAN.

The webinar series is organised by Thailand in the capacity of ASEAN Coordinator on Sustainable Development Cooperation. It provides an  excellent platform for participants not only to gain a more in-depth and practical understanding of the BCG concept but also to foster network and exchange perspectives on promoting sustainable development cooperation within ASEAN and between ASEAN and its External Partners.
